A chain is only as strong as its links

The Pro Life Committee of Chautauqua is looking for new links to reinforce its Annual National Life Chain Sunday, Oct. 6 .

The Life Chain is a pro-life social movement organization, one of the largest in the United States. It was started in 1987 in Yuba City and Marysville by a small California-based pro-life ministry called Please Let Me Live. Every first Sunday of October, Life Chain invites various churches and congregations across the United States to stand on designated sidewalks to pray and rally for one hour.

In past years, the local Life Chain began at Blessed Mary Angela Parish, 275 Lakeshore Drive, Dunkirk, on Route 5, and continued on to Central Avenue and then up toward Fredonia State College.

This year, the group thought it might try something different. A chain is only as strong as its links and each church, home, office or business establishment can be a potential link. Supporters will continue to line up on the route, as in past years, but invite you to become a link where you live, work, worship or have a good time. Throughout the Chautauqua area, supporters would send a striking message that they believe life begins from conception to natural death.

Think about it! If you are pro-life, your “voice” could be heard just by standing out in front of your church or your home. A sign in front of your establishment will also be considered a link! Signs, with prayers on the reverse side, can be provided. The Pro Life members ask that you stand (or sit) for one hour, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6. The motto is “We believe in life and we support life!”

The St. Gianna Pregnancy Outreach Center, located at 32 Moore Ave., Fredonia, offers support to all who may contemplate abortion or are in need of material, educational or spiritual support. Staff will meet with community members by appointment only. Call the center at 401-3324 for help! For more information on the Life Chain, signs or how this group may help you, call Pat at 207-6509. Those who desire to participate are asked to contact Pat to let them know which church they will be representing.

All are welcome to pray for the Unborn. At 3:30 p.m., there will be a reception in the Blessed Mary Angela Lyceum, located at 15 N. Pangolin St., Dunkirk behind the church.
