Lions Club and friends go bowling
One of the guests, Michael Mirek, had a birthday that day, so a surprise birthday party was celebrated also, with a beautiful cake donated by Sweet Perfections Bakery on Lakeshore Drive in Dunkirk.
The bowling skills varied from the newbie to the more accomplished bowlers, but fun was had by all who attended the event.
Along with Simon Price, a senior from the Fredonia High School bowling team, who volunteered his time to assist, several Lions Club members were in attendance to serve as helpers to the guests and to talk with and open lines of communication as the club endeavors to meet the needs of the blind population of our area. As they expressed their appreciation for the experience, a couple of the bowling guests noted they had also attended the Holiday Concert at Fredonia State University this past December as guests of the Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club.
“Our club is continually looking for ways that we might serve in our community,” said Lions Club president Judy Cole. “We are excited to be making connections to better understand the needs and desires of our sight-challenged population. We are being told that if we can help facilitate social events that enable the blind to get together and socialize, that would be much appreciated. This bowling party is such an event. We plan to have more. We are also looking into a possible picnic event over the summer that is currently in the planning stage.”
The Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club is always looking for new members who wish to join us in making a difference in our community. Find us on Facebook or call 716-672-8509 for more information.
