Teenage girl dies in fall at Zoar Valley

OTTO — A 16-year-old female died Saturday afternoon after a fall from a steep ledge at Zoar Valley.

Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies along with New York State Police, emergency personnel from Otto and Gowanda Fire Departments as well as the Gowanda EMS responded to the scene around 5:40 p.m. after several 911 calls about the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

The department was assisted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, state Forest Rangers, New York State Environmental Police and the Eden Fire Department.

STOCKTON — A 20-year-old town resident is facing charges after allegedly stealing property valued at more than $1,000 from a victim.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies charged Hunter J. Evans on Friday with fourth-degree grand larceny, class E Felony. Evans was issued an appearance ticket to be in the town of Stockton Court at a later date.

CHAUTAUQUA — A driver suffering a medical condition led to a response by emergency crews for a vehicle into a pond.

At 5:50 p.m. Friday, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department and Mayville Fire Department responded to the area of Route 394 and Parker Road for a call of a vehicle submerged. An investigation showed that Donald Dipirro, 46, of Westfield, was traveling north when he suffered an unknown medical condition and lost consciousness. His vehicle traveled off the road into a ditch on the east side of the road, struck a utility pole and then traveled into a pond becoming submerged in the water.

Dipirro was treated at the scene and transported to Westfield hospital for evaluation, Electrical power was disrupted in the area for a short time and restored by national Grid crews.

GOWANDA POLICE DEPARTMENT

GOWANDA — A requested welfare check of three children led to a seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree charge of criminal use of drug paraphernalia for a village resident.

Police had been requested to a welfare check on the three children of Ashley N. Smith, 32, of 22 College Street on Aug. 17 at 4:23 p.m., during which they observed a small baggie of cocaine and two pipes commonly used for drugs in plain sight.

Police issued Smith an appearance ticket in the Town of Persia Court. The Child Protection Service was notified regarding this arrest.
