CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE – SHERMAN – Daryll Thompson Jr., 39, of Sherman was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. At around 1 a.m. deputies responded to an address in the town to investigate a reported altercation between two people. It is alleged that Thompson became combative, did not cooperate in the investigation and engaged in a physical altercation with a deputy. CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE – WESTFIELD – A fire in the village Thursday has been ruled accidental in nature. At 11:55 a.m.. Westfield police and fire, along with other mutual aid fire departments, responded to 22 Watson Ave. for a reported structure fire. Truck strikes CSX bridge in city Dunkirk police received a call reporting that a semi had struck the CSX Bridge on Brigham Road before noon Wednesday. After an investigation it was determined that semi was travelling north on Brigham Road and struck the south side of the bridge with the top of the trailer it was hauling. CSX responded to the scene and examined the bridge and Dunkirk DPW cleared the roadway of debris. There were no injuries. DUNKIRK FIRE DEPARTMENT A trash can fire damaged the wall of an apartment house in the city on Friday. At approximately 3:37 p.m., the city of Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to 787 Deer St. Upon arrival, crews found that the exterior fire had spread into the wall of the apartment house. Quick action by residents and Dunkirk Police Officers kept the fire in check until firefighters could open the wall and extinguish it.
