Jamestown firefighters contain kitchen blaze

JAMESTOWN — A kitchen fire at 33 Sturges St. in Jamestown was quickly cotained by firefighters. Jamestown Fire Department reports the incident took place around 1:22 a.m. Sunday. When crews arrived, fire was visible through a first-floor window. Once the fire was knocked down, a search of the residence took place. Firefighters found four cats that were returned to the owner and noted that working smoke alarms resulted in early detection of the fire. Crews were back in service after 5 a.m.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT — A city woman has been charged with falsely reporting an incident. At 7:45 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the intersection of an eastside address for a report of a female gunshot victim, who had been shot in the head. Upon arrival, Officers located the caller, Lilly A. James, 58, who pointed officers to a house up the road from her location. While speaking with James, she stated that she had received the information about the victim from a third party. DUNKIRK POLICE DEPARTMENT — A 23-year-old city resident is facing charges after attempting to break-in to a nearby residence. Dunkirk police report Manuel Eusebio Jr., 23, of 27 W. Lucas Ave., was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after the department received a call reporting a male subject was attempting to break into a victim’s apartment through the front door around 10 a.m. Thursday. Jamestown man pleads guilty in drug conspiracy

A Jamestown man is headed to prison and could be fined millions of dollars in a drug case. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross has announced that Roberto Morales Sanchez, 55, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr. to narcotics conspiracy involving 1 kilogram or more of heroin and 400 grams or more of fentanyl. The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $10 million fine. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY COURT – Dan Crisoptimo Baez, 33, of Rochester, was sentenced Monday, to a determinate state prison sentence of 5 years with 5 years of post-release supervision after being convicted of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a class D violent felony. In March, the New York State Police conducted a traffic stop of Crisoptimo Baez’s vehicle in the town of Portland.
