‘An Evening with The Lincolns’ event canceled

WESTFIELD — The Chautauqua County Historical Society has canceled “An Evening with The Lincolns” event set for Saturday, Sept. 11, because of the increasing incidence of COVID-19 cases.

The society is offering refunds for tickets that have already been purchased.

“This annual gala at McClurg Museum is the one time a year that we can thank our supporters in person,” said Cristie Herbst, CCHS president. “We have canceled it with great regret and a promise to bring it back next year.”

This is the second year that CCHS has had to cancel this major fundraising event because of the pandemic.

The society will send refunds to those who write their name and address on the back of the ticket they had purchased, and then return the ticket by mailing it to: CCHS, Box 7, Westfield, NY 14787. They also can turn tickets in to any CCHS trustee. Tickets also can be saved and will be honored at next year’s event.

Since its inception in 1883, CCHS has been collecting and preserving the significant history of Chautauqua County. Its mission is to foster an interest in and knowledge of the history of Chautauqua County through the collection, preservation and interpretation of objects and archives of local significance.

East Otto Historical Museum to open

The East Otto Historical Museum will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays in September. Appointments for other days can also be arranged with Michelle Gogel, historian, by calling 716-257-0654. The museum is located next to the fire hall in the center of town at 8982 Reed Hill Road, East Otto. Items in the museum tell the story of people and businesses that once were a part of East Otto. They include pictures of people and houses, small farm tools, a kitchen and old obituary clippings. The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in town, originally built in 1834 as a Baptist church.
