Roast pork dinner

set for Oct. 5

The Blessed Mary Angela Parish Holy Name Society will sponsor a roast pork drive-through pick-up dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 5, serving from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Parish Social Center on Townsend Street.

The dinner will feature oven roasted pork, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, dinner roll and butter. The proceeds will be used to purchase new lightweight tables for the social center.

Tickets are available after each Mass at St. Hedwig and St. Hyacinth Churches and at Big Rick’s on Lake Shore Drive East. There is a $15 donation for tickets.

All are invited to join for this dinner.

Barker Library

announces coming events

The Darwin R. Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia, has scheduled a number of events.

¯ Storytimes — From Sept. 12 through Oct. 25, the Children’s Room of the Darwin R. Barker Library will be holding storytime: Mondays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers and Tuesdays at 4:15 p.m. for all ages; Tuesday storytimes begin Sept. 20. Join in for stories, movies, crafts and play. All children are welcome. No registration is necessary.

¯ Master Builders — Master Builders returns Thursdays at 4 p.m. There will be weekly challenges and prizes for creating projects with the building toy collection.

¯ Barker Library Book Club — Join the Barker Library Book Club to discuss Tana French’s “The Searcher” on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. All are welcome.

meets Tuesday

Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Unit 62 Auxiliary monthly meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Post 62, 211 Central Ave. Dues for 2023 are now being accepted. Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome.

Legislature holds

special meeting

The Chautauqua County Legislature will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday by Zoom, with a live stream available on the Chautauqua County Facebook page for public viewing. Legislators will discuss accepting FAA funding for lighting improvements at the Chautauqua County Airport in Dunkirk. Comments for Privilege of the Floor may be mailed or hand delivered to Olivia Lee, Clerk-Legislature at 3 North Erie Street, Mayville, NY 14757 or emailed to leeo@chqgov.com. Comments received prior to 4 p.m. the day of the meeting shall be read by Lee during the appropriate privilege of the floor.

Sons of Legion meet Tuesday

BROCTON — The Sons of the Legion, squad 434 Brocton, will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday. The meeting will be at the Brocton American Legion, starting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend. Plans for the upcoming cornhole tournament on Oct. 8 will be finalized. Sons meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month starting at 7. Meetings are held September to June.

Retirees To Hold

Annual Picnic

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Department of Social Services retirees will hold their annual picnic on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The picnic will be at the green pavilion at Lakeside Park, 50 W. Lake Road, Mayville, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share, their own beverages and a lawn chair. Tableware will be provided.
