‘Kids On The Fly’ held Mondays
The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club’s “Kids On The Fly” conducts free fly-tying classes, open to the public, for kids and adults on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m . Classes cover beginner through advanced skill levels learning the art of fly tying for Trout, Bass and Steelhead fishing. New this year classes will cover Steelhead and Brown Trout Jigs for fishing in local tributaries. There is no cost, and all materials are free of charge. The Club is at 1 Mullet St, Dunkirk. Sinclairville library book sale begins Thursday
SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville Free Library’s annual book sale will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 2-7 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a bag sale Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds from the book sale are used for the benefit of the library and to enhance collections and programs. Fredonia Food Pantry is Oct. 15
On Saturday, Oct. 15, The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Avenue. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, ZIP code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.
Barker Library to host magical unicorn
celebration
On Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to noon, all are cordially invited to a Magical Unicorn Celebration at the Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia. Join in to celebrate all that is uniquely unicorn! Read unicorn stories, watch a unicorn video and make some magical unicorn dust to take home. To register, call the library at 716-672-8051. Sheridan VFW sets market, fundraiser
SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Historical Society will be sponsoring a fund-raiser during the Lake Shore Flea Market this Friday and Saturday.
There will be three items for the fund-raiser: an “eye spy” children’s throw quilt. Each square is something that people may ask their child to find a variety of different things. The second item is a queen size Christmas quilt and the third will be a red, white and blue wine and cheese tray to be drawn on election day.
Chances are $2 each or 3 for $5 and the moneys will benefit the Sheridan Historical Society.
A flea market is at the VFW Memorial Post, 2556 Route 20, Sheridan. The hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to the flea market, there will be a Friday night fish fry and Saturday breakfast and lunch served by the VFW. Breakfast menu includes a Danish, breakfast sandwiches on homemade biscuits, fresh brewed coffee. Lunch menu is homemade soup of the week, pizza and wings.
The VFW offers a full-service bar for a variety of beverages.

Sons of Legion plans meeting, tourney
BROCTON — The Sons of the Legion Squad 434 will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday. The meeting is at the Brocton Legion starting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.
The Sons corn hole tournament is this Saturday with registration at 1 p.m. The tournament starts at 2 p.m. Live music with, Rockin Robin, starts at 6. The public is welcome for corn hole and the music. Volunteers to help with the event also are welcome. Please bring corn hole boards and meet at the Brocton Legion at 1 p.m.
