County reports 40 new COVID cases

The health department on Thursday reported 40 new cases of COVID-19, along with a new virus-related death. There are currently 260 active cases, eight people with the virus in the hospital, 500 people in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 8.9%. Chautauqua County has officially crossed the 10,000 COVID-19 mark. The health department announced 119 new confirmed cases of the virus over the weekend. The bulk of new cases came from the Jamestown zip code (47). Eleven were reported in Dunkirk in addition to seven in Ashville; five in Bemus Point; four each in Brocton, Falconer and Lakewood; and three each in Cassadaga, Clymer, Mayville and Ripley. The county Health Department recorded 38 new COVID-19 cases and another virus-related death. The information, collected Monday, pushes the total to 10,045 to date in the county, along with 164 deaths. Trial in county court adjourned over ‘COVID concerns’

MAYVILLE — Potential jurors were sent home, and a trial for two Buffalo men facing weapons possession charges has been postponed in Chautauqua County Court over "COVID concerns" that arose Tuesday, a court clerk said. The clerk confirmed that individuals who had arrived at the Mayville courthouse for the beginning of jury selection in the case involving Torrie Jones and Mikial Moore were released. Chautauqua County has officially crossed the 10,000 COVID-19 mark. The health department announced 119 new confirmed cases of the virus over the weekend. With the new cases, there have been 10,007 to date within the county. There have also been 9,587 recoveries and 163 virus-related deaths. A new fatality was reported Monday. Since Aug. 1, the county has recorded 663 new cases. Of those, 63% have involved those not vaccinated against the virus; 16% considered fully vaccinated; 5% partially vaccinated; and 17% whose vaccination status was not known. The Chautauqua County Health Department on Friday reported 90 new COVID cases. And for the third straight day, active cases, those with the virus in the hospital and people in quarantine all rose. Of the new cases reported, from information collected Thursday, 32 came from the Jamestown zip code; 12 from Fredonia; 11 from Dunkirk; six from Falconer; four each from Forestville, Silver Creek and Bemus Point; and three each from Westfield, Lakewood and Kennedy.
