Nursing home COVID deaths continue to climb

More COVID-19-related deaths have been reported at nursing homes in Chautauqua County. According to data compiled by the New York State Department of Health, 18 residents have died due to complications associated with the coronavirus inside local nursing facilities. Of those, 14 were residents of Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk; two were residents of Absolut Care of Westfield; and two were residents of Heritage Green in Greenhurst. Hundreds of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were identified Tuesday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health. The numbers represent data collected from Friday through Monday. In addition, three new COVID-19-related deaths were recorded, marking 50 to date within the county. The new deaths, according to county data, involve a person between the ages of 60 and 69; one between 70 and 79; and one between 80 and 89. SILVER CREEK — In a Facebook Live broadcast this month, Silver Creek Superintendent Todd Crandall, school nurse Jennifer Johnson, and school medical provider Dr. Steven Barnes, announced the plan for testing if state Gov. County eyes to improve search for vaccine sites

As COVID-19 deaths and cases continue to rapidly climb in Chautauqua County, the Health Department has announced it is working on alternatives to better assist area residents who are eligible receive a vaccination. In a news release this weekend, the department said the state’s online Am I Eligible? tool at (https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/) was the only way to connect to a vaccination clinic run by the state. Chautauqua County IDA preps for Round 2 CARES Act funds

After Chautauqua County successfully assisted more than two dozen businesses using federal funds in the fall, the county Industrial Development Agency is ready to help again. Jan. 26 is the county IDA’s next meeting. Among the items on its agenda that day will be considering applications for round 2 of their CARES Act funds.
