County reports 199 new COVID cases from weekend

Providing numbers from Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Chautauqua County reported 199 new cases of the novel coronavirus. Active cases increased to 452 over the weekend, a 19-person increase. Hospitalizations also increased by two to 33. Quarantined contacts, however, decreased from 1,450 on Thursday to 1,421. After reporting 43 new cases on Friday, 48 new cases were reported in Jamestown, 22 new cases in Fredonia, 17 in Forestville, 12 in Frewsburg and 11 in Dunkirk. There are now 129 active cases in Jamestown. There are 58 active cases in Mayville.

NY coronavirus hospitalizations hit highest level since May

NEW YORK (AP) — The number of New Yorkers hospitalized with coronavirus has risen to the highest level since mid-May, according to state figures released Saturday. Officials said 6,208 people were hospitalized with the virus as of Friday — the largest number in the state since May 15. The state on Saturday also reported 127 new deaths and 9,919 new cases. County sees slight decrease in COVID positivity rate

After peaking at 9% on Wednesday, Chautauqua County saw a slight drop in COVID-19 positivity rate on Thursday even as it reported 71 new cases and a 25th virus-related fatality. In addition to the cases, The county Department of Health reported a seven-day positivity rate of 8.8% on Thursday. Meanwhile, 34 people are hospitalized with the virus — a drop of two from information released on Wednesday.
