SUNY administrator taking post in Williamsville

Only one year into his tenure as Vice President for Finance and Administration, Michael Kelly is leaving his position at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

According to a post on the Williamsville Central Schools website, Kelly is to become assistant superintendent for finance and management services. His tenure is to begin May 1.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Kelly to the Williamsville Central School District,” said Dr. Darren Brown-Hall, Superintendent of Schools on the web site. “He has a proven record of success in education, and acuity for finance and management. Fiscal responsibility is top of mind in K-12 education, and we are proud to have him on our Leadership Team.”

Kelly, who was appointed during the district’s meeting Tuesday, succeeds Thomas Maturski, who retired following 24 years in the district, and will oversee business, facilities and grounds, child nutrition, and technology. Maturski and Kelly will work together through the remainder of the 2024-25 budget process.

“It is an honor to join the Williamsville Central School District as the next assistant superintendent for finance and management service,” said Kelly. “Williamsville Schools have such a sterling reputation and incredible legacy of success in K-12 education, which makes this such a wonderful opportunity to continue to build upon this firm foundation.”

Kelly began his role at the university on Feb. 27, 2023. According to seethroughny.net, he was compensated at $134,092 last year.

He had previously served as the Vice President of Finance for New View Alliance, Inc., a non-profit company in educational, health, and human services in Western New York. With oversight of over 36 separate programs, over 800 total employees, and a $60 million dollar operating budget supported through a variety of local, county, state, and federal funding sources, he provided strategic financial management of all matters related to their operations, analysis, budgeting, and long term financial sustainability. He also served on the board of Community Connections of Buffalo as Treasurer, as a board member for the Community Services for Every1 Support Foundation, and is a past president of the Buffalo Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration.

“I’m overjoyed to join the team at SUNY Fredonia as their next Vice President of Finance and Administration,” said Kelly when taking on the SUNY role. “As a Fredonia alum, it is a dream come true returning to campus to be a part of this special institution of higher learning. I’m really looking forward to not only connecting with the university and the Division of Finance and Administration, but also reconnecting with the Fredonia community.”
