Two charged in city narcotics investigation

Two individuals have been charged in connection with a six-month investigation into narcotics activity in Dunkirk, including one man who was charged with drug involvement earlier this month.

A search warrant was executed by investigators from the Dunkirk Police Department and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office at 27 W. Lucas Ave. around 1:19 p.m. Thursday. Entry was made into the residence by the Dunkirk Police Special Response Team. Located at the residence at the time of the search warrant was Yajaira Herrera Hernandez, 46. Also detained was Jose L. Pacheco, 26, who was observed leaving the residence just prior to the arrival of Dunkirk Police.

As a result of the search, investigators seized 2.78 grams of crack cocaine, scales and packaging material for the distribution of narcotics and a quantity of currency. Herrera Hernandez was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, first-degree criminal nuisance and endangering the welfare of a child.

Pacheco was charged with third-degree criminal Possession of a controlled substance, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. Pacheco and Herrera Hernandez were transported to the Dunkirk Police Department where they were to be arraigned in the City of Dunkirk Court.

Authorities continue to ask members of the community to call and report suspicious or narcotics related activity within their neighborhoods. For Pacheco, this is the second time he has been implicated in a drug bust. A search warrant at 51 E. Second St. in the city on March 12 was made into the residence and he was allegedly found with Pacheco, 26. As 5 grams of crack cocaine, scales and packaging material for the distribution of narcotics and a quantity of currency.

Pacheco was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia in that incident.
