James Spann running for Westfield Town Justice

Judge James J. Spann (D) of Westfield is announcing his candidacy as Westfield Town Justice.

Spann is currently a serving a term as Justice in the Town of Westfield. He has continuously held the positions of Westfield Village Justice or Acting Village Justice or Westfield Town presiding over both civil and criminal cases since 1987. The experience Spann has acquired as a judge is necessary to continue to provide the Westfield community with the highest level of justice.

“Both as a sitting judge and practicing attorney, I have developed skills, received continuing education, and I have earned and reciprocated respect in the court room. This combination makes me the most experienced and qualified candidate,” stated Spann.

Spann was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1985 and in the District of Columbia, Washington D.C in 1986. A lifelong resident of Chautauqua County, he is currently the sole owner of Spann and Spann, P.C., a professional corporation, employed as an attorney. He has also been admitted to the U.S. Federal District Court. Spann has been a member of the New York State Bar Association since 1985 and holds memberships with the New York State Magistrates Association, the Northern Chautauqua County Bar Association, and the Erie County Bar Association.

Spann is a resident of Westfield where he resides with his family. His wife, June Miller-Spann, is an Associate Director of University Advancement for Fredonia, where she serves as the Fredonia College Foundation Liaison for the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The Spanns have been married for 20 years and have two daughters, Isabella age 19, and Zoe age 12. Both Jim and June graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School as well as SUNY Fredonia. They hold memberships at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. The Spanns have volunteered in many capacities over the years, including sharing of their time and talents for Westfield Counseling Service, Jamestown Mental Health Services, the Patterson Library, SUNY Fredonia, the Westfield Bicentennial Committee and the American Lung Association.

Spann is seeking re-election to the bench and will appear on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot as a life-long Democrat.
