Classes for first-time homebuyers planned

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation & Improvement Corp. is inviting all first-time homebuyers to attend one of two special classes announcing the “Homebuyer Dream Program,” which is offered by the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. Classes are to be held in The Old Mayville School Building, at the CHRIC Office, located at 2 Academy St.

The first will be offered in English on Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A second class will be offered in Spanish on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the classes, CHRIC will outline the requirements to participate in the program and the benefits of becoming an “educated homeowner.”

Seating is limited and preregistration is required to secure a seat. You must register and pay the $50 enrollment fee in advance by calling Mayra Alvarado at 753-4180, or by e-mail: mayra–alvarado@chric.org. The $50 fee is to cover the cost of your credit report, the educational material provided and other program delivery expenses. The organization accepts credit/debit cards, cash, personal check or money order.

The program includes a combination of group classes and individual counseling sessions introducing participants to a detailed review of the mechanics of the home purchase process. Participants will learn about affordable mortgage products, including any down-payment and/or closing cost assistance programs for which they may qualify, budgeting, savings, resolving credit issues, indentifying a house, negotiating the contract, obtaining financing, preparing for closing, and life as a homeowner.

CHRIC also offers the education course online through eHomeAmerica for the cost of $100 per person, and the same valuable information. It can be accessed, completed at your own pace and in two different languages, English and Spanish by visiting us at: www.eHomeAmerica.org/chric.

All individuals interested in becoming homeowners are welcome to participate regardless of income or residence.

CHRIC urges participants interested in the “Homebuyer Dream Program” through Community Bank, N.A., Lake Shore Savings Bank and M&T Bank to attend one of the classes scheduled for the Summer of 2019, or to complete the online Certification. Buyers cannot apply for the HDP program until they complete the Certification.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York will grant up to $14,500 toward down payment and closing cost assistance through their “Homebuyer Dream Program” to eligible first-time homebuyers purchasing a home through one of our approved community based, member lenders. Additionally, the Homebuyer Dream Program also offers up to $500 toward the defrayment of homeownership counseling costs which will be provided for the use of the household via the member to the non profit housing agency. The amount of the defrayment will be added to the grant.

Starting at $3.50/week.
