MAYVILLE — A jail inmate is in additional hot water after a Chautauqua County Jail Corrections Officer observed him collecting contraband, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday.

The Work Detail program allows previously approved and sentenced inmates to provide work services throughout the county. Deputies said Gary A Warren III was observed picking up property and concealing it on his person. He allegedly collected hidden chewing tobacco and cigars for the purposes of consumption during the work detail on Aug. 26.

Warren was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband. Being that he is currently an inmate, he will be arraigned within the jail via centralized arraignment.
