Mini job fair added to Activities Night at Fredonia

A bonus mini job fair, Network on the Go, was added to the always popular State University of New York at Fredonia student Activities Night held recently in the Dods Hall Grove.

“This was a great opportunity for students to talk informally to employers about internships, part-time jobs and career opportunities,” said Tracy Collingwood, director of the Career Development Office. “All students, first-year through senior year and beyond, were invited and encouraged to establish relationships with prospective employers.”

Tables staffed by employer representatives were set up in high-traffic areas, near club tables.

Over 500 students had the opportunity to speak with 17 employers, who were seeking candidates for internships, summer and full and part-time jobs.

Professional attire was not required for Network on the Go, however it was strongly recommended that students come prepared with questions to ask employers. “This was an opportunity for students to represent themselves well as begin establishing a professional connection to a future employer, site supervisor or mentor in the field,” Ms. Collingwood explained.

Jennifer Wilkins, internship coordinator and career counselor in the Career Development Office, received the 2019 SUNY Career Development Organization award for Excellence in Employer/Faculty/Community Collaborations for the first Network on the Go program held during the Fall 2018 Activities Night. Last year, more than 400 students had the opportunity to talk directly with representatives from 17 organizations based in Western New York about internships and part-time employment and receive helpful career advice. Annex25, GEICO, Greystone Nature Preserve and United Way of Northern Chautauqua County were among the program participants in 2018.

Employers who are interested in participating in the spring semester Activities Night, slated for January 2020 in Steele Hall on the Wednesday of the first full week of classes and will focus on summer jobs, should contact Ms. Wilkins at Jennifer.wilkins@fredonia.edu or call (716) 673-3327.
