Rudnicki running for Westfield board

Steve Rudnicki

WESTFIELD — Steve Rudnicki is seeking a seat on the Westfield Town Board.

Originally from Lackawanna, he is a graduate from the State University at Buffalo with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1983.

“I began working for the state Department of Transportation where I earned a professional engineer’s license managing a design squad. I got to know the Westfield community while overseeing the design of the reconstruction of Main Street in the village. Working with the village officials, the Westfield Advisory Committee and the Grow Girls showed me how much pride Westfield takes in their community,” he said in his announcement.

“At the end of that project, I transferred into the construction section since my wife, Doreen, and I had bought a house on East Lake Road. During my time as an engineer-in-charge in construction, I oversaw the completion of the twinning of I-86, the reconstruction of Route 394 from Westfield to Mayville, the village of Hamburg reconstruction, the bridge replacement and roundabout on the Seneca Nation in Irving, the replacement of the Washington Street Bridge in Jamestown as well as many other smaller projects.

“Doreen and I have been married for 28 years and since moving here have worked our small organic farm throughout our working careers and now in retirement. We use organic methods to grow Concord grapes, hardy kiwi, lavender and various fruits and vegetables. Some of you may have met Doreen at the Westfield Farmers Market, during her work as a physical therapist or may have heard her speak about organic farming and certification to various groups in the area.

“My volunteer work includes being a member of the Village of Westfield DPW Advisory Committee and a helping hand at the Patterson Library.

“After living here over 20 years, we’ve come to appreciate the community here and the amazing natural resources and history of Westfield. As the Barcelona Harbor, bustling Main Street, restaurants and wineries become more popular, it is becoming increasingly important to look around us — at the people and at our environment – and plan for a future that values these resources.

“If elected to represent you on the town board, I would support projects that promote the farms and businesses in the town while preserving the historic and small town feeling that brings people here. Drawing people to our community requires innovative ideas and technology in our government and businesses, a respect for our farming heritage, support for maintaining natural areas, and a respect for older residents that shaped this town. This would make Westfield a welcoming community for new residents as well.

“Get out and vote and get involved in your town.”
