Dog Walk set for Sunday
Lakeshore Humane Society will hold its 17th Annual Pat McGee Memorial Dog Walk on Sunday at the Lakeshore Humane Society Adoption Center, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk.
Dog Walk registration is from 9 to 9:50 a.m. The Walk begins at 10 a.m. Registration is $20. Each dog must have proper I.D. on a collar or be microchipped, wear a rabies tag, be on a non-retractable leash at all times, and have an up-to-date rabies shot certificate to present at registration.

St. Rose of Lima plans a roast pork dinner for Oct. 9
FORESTVILLE — The St. Rose Society will hold a drive-through only roast pork dinner at St. Rose of Lima, 11 Center St., Forestville from noon until sold out on Saturday, Oct. 9. Tickets are $12 each. The meal includes pork, squash, green beans and dessert.
St Elizabeth Ann Seton outdoor Rosary planned for Oct. 7
St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 328 Washington Ave., Dunkirk, will hold an outdoor Rosary in the grotto area at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. Refreshments will follow. Each attendee is asked to bring a chair. In case of rain, the event will move to the church. The group will also have its usual Rosary on the third Thursday of the month, Oct. 21, at 5:30 p.m.
Blessing of the Pets service set
All pets with owners are invited to a “Blessing of the Pets” in honor of St. Francis of Assisi at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The service will be in front of the church on the corner of of West Fourth and Lark streets in Dunkirk.
St. Francis of Assisi is well-known as the patron saint of animals. He was born into a prestigious family in Italy, his father having been a silk merchant. It has been said that on a pilgrimage to Rome, he joined the poor in begging, and then, went to continue a life of poverty. St. Francis loved all animals -and was said to have preached to the birds.
All are invited to attend this service.
