JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Police Department identified the driver of a stolen vehicle who fled a traffic stop Thursday afternoon. The man is still being sought by JPD.
Police have been working with the New York Police Department and determined the vehicle, a 2019 Mazda CX 5, was stolen Monday night from a Staten Island home near New York City.
The operator, identified as 21-year-old Joseph Marcov of Brooklyn, was stopped by Jamestown police for reckless driving around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday near West Sixth and Clinton streets. During the stop, Marcov fled at a high rate of speed.
Police said identification was made through body camera video during Thursday’s traffic stop and information provided by the public after news of the vehicle pursuit was made public.
“We are continuing to work this closely with NYPD investigators,” said Capt. Robert Samuelson.

Jamestown police are seeking warrants for the Brooklyn man’s arrest on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of stolen property and unlawfully fleeing a police officer, along with “numerous other vehicle and traffic charges,” the department said.
Anyone with information — including the whereabouts of Marcov or the stolen SUV — is asked to contact police at 716-483-7537 or via the anonymous tips line at 716-483-8477.
