A wide selection of reasonably priced flowering perennials is available at Revitalize Dunkirk’s fourth annual plant sale, Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, in the parking lot behind the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Enter the parking lot from Washington Avenue to shop the cash-only sale.

Most plants are priced between $3 and $12, and all are hardy divisions or “volunteer” seedlings from Revitalize Dunkirk members’ and friends’ gardens. Species for sale include the native plants helenium, sundrops, cutleaf coneflower, purple coneflower, sweet woodruff, elderberry, button bush and black-eyed Susan, as well as non-native favorites such as Asian lily, crocosmia, Stella d’oro daylily, variegated hosta and many more.

Sale proceeds support beautification projects including the planting and maintenance of trees and flower gardens on public property. Last fall Revitalize Dunkirk volunteers wrapped up the season by adding seven flowering shrubs and mulch to improve the appearance of the bioswale area behind the Beach House Bar and Grill at Wright Park and began this year by planting three varieties of red maples at Wright Park between the restaurant and new playground in May.

Revitalize Dunkirk volunteers also plant and maintain trees and gardens on property belonging to the school district, Brooks Hospital, and Dunkirk Housing Authority, as well as on numerous neighborhood street corners and rights-of-way. Beginning in 2021, they have also provided container plantings at the entrances to the Dunkirk Historical Museum and the Senior Center.
