Silver Creek seeks new DPW operator, bids for trash collection services

SILVER CREEK — The Village Board will advertise for bids on trash collection in the Village, as its contract with Casella expires in June; the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club was authorized to hold its annual Baskets and Bunnies event in the Village Park on Saturday, March 23 from 11 a.m. until noon; and Brandi Winter of Girl Scout Troop 20221 was authorized to sell Girl Scout Cookies in the Village Square on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., beginning March 31, through April 28.

The next mobile food pantry event, sponsored by FeedMore of WNY, the Silver Creek Food Pantry, and the Village of Silver Creek, is set for Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m., at the Village Municipal Building parking lot.

The Silver Creek Fire Department reported 39 total calls in the month of February, including 30 emergency medical services calls and two motor vehicle accidents.

The Village is also seeking a new Motor Equipment Operator for the Department of Public Works, as Theodore Braidich submitted his resignation, effective April 1. The Board accepted his resignation with regret, and each member of the Board commended Braidich for his efforts with the Village.

“(Braidich) was a very good worker for us,” Hornburg said. “… Hopefully we can find somebody equally as qualified as he was.”

“I just wanted to thank (Braidich) for his service to the Village and wish him luck in his future. He is going to be missed,” Village Trustee Marv Cummings said. “He was a great employee, so I wish him the best. He deserves it.”

Also during public comments, a homeowner raised issues created to her property by the clearing of trees and brush at the little league fields; the Garden Club noted several signs around the Village of Silver Creek in need of replacement or repair; and a representative on behalf of Little League inquired about AEDs.

“I appreciate all the public comments tonight. It’s nice to see people in the audience, because we don’t always see our constituents. It’s nice that you came,” Tampio said.
