Westfield Stray Cat Rescue seeks volunteers

When New York state changed the regulations regarding animal shelters at the end of 2025, the Westfield Stray Cat Rescue had to relocate from their facility above their Thrifty Kitty Thrift Shop at 59 E. Main St. in Westfield so they could meet the new guidelines. They relocated to the space formerly used as the Westfield Veterinary Clinic at 8494 W. Route 20. The facility is larger than the previous one, and the shelter is consequently in immediate need of more volunteers to help care for the cats and kittens. Gowanda hires new Spanish teacher, school nurse

GOWANDA — A few new faces will be joining the Gowanda Central School District this fall, as a new Spanish Teacher and School Nurse were among the hires approved at a recent Board of Education meeting. Lauren Schraft is the new Spanish Teacher at Gowanda High School. Schraft, a resident of Silver Creek, is initially certified in Spanish (Grades 7-12) and English to Speakers of Other Languages. Jamestown man sentenced on drug charges

A Jamestown man has been sentenced for his guilty plea involving drug charges. District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced Monday that 33-year-old Jamal Jackson was sentenced to a total of 6 years in state prison with 5 years of post-release supervision by Judge David W. Foley after being convicted of fourth-degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
