Sortisio addresses BOCES partnership

Fredonia Central Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Sortisio provided an update on the proposed Board of Cooperative Educational Services partnership for the district.

“We are convening a team to review the opportunity presented to renew our partnership to BOCES,” he said. “We’re going to have a few meetings to have open and frank discussions about the importance of supporting all learners and what that might look like in our district.”

Sortisio went on to say, “I want to extend a thank you to Michelle Greenough (Fredonia Teachers Association) president in all of her efforts in developing the FTA team and this team’s willingness to seek answers for their questions while remaining open minded.”

At a board meeting on June 11, numerous Fredonia Teachers Association members were in attendance to voice concerns regarding communication issues directly relating to the BOCES proposal. BOCES plans to move to Fredonia, from Brocton, classes with special education students that BOCES believes can be integrated into the community.

Of the new team, Sortisio noted, “I do want to note I anticipate some fluidity to the team. There will be six teachers including Michelle, on her team, and a couple alternates. We have conference commitments and vacation schedules that might interfere with some of the meeting dates.”
