SUNY credit union announces three scholarships

The SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union scholarships were awarded to three high school students at their 47th annual meeting last month.

Frances C. Granta was the first president of the Credit Union in 1974. The recipient of the 22nd annual Frances C. Granata Scholarship is Jocelyn Bowers. Bowers is graduating from Dunkirk High School in June.

She is the daughter of Paul and Lynn Bowers. Throughout high school she has participated in tennis and wwimming as well as plays, National Honor Society and French National Honor Society. She has been an active volunteer throughout her high school years at the Dunkirk Lighthouse, WNY Curvy Girls Scoliosis and recently at the Lakeshore Humane Society. In fall, she plans to attend Waynesburg University to pursue a degree in marine biology.

Lacey Milius, a Silver Creek High School senior, is the recipient of the 22nd annual Paul T. Schonhart scholarship. Schonhart was the Board President of the Credit Union for fifteen years. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Anne Milius. She has been on the Varsity Cheerleading team since her freshman year and was team co-captain for the Winter Competitive team this year; she is a member of the National Honor Society where she has had the opportunity to volunteer at various community service events; Lacey is also a member of the Key Club and the prom committee. In the fall, she will be attending SUNY Brockport. At this time, she is registered as an undeclared major because she is not quite sure what career she wants to pursue after college.

Sydney Dahl, is the recipient of the 20th annual Patricia M. Rushboldt scholarship. The scholarship is given in memory of a dedicated employee of the SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union for 28 years. She is the daughter of Tammi Moloney and currently a senior at Pine Valley Central School. She is on the varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams. She has received the Scholar Athlete award several times for maintaining Honor Roll grades while playing sports. She is the president of the National Technical Honor Society at LoGuidice BOCES, a FFA leader, has been part of 4-H for eight years, and co-president for the Class of 2022. She is a certified lifeguard and has worked for Pine Valley Central Schools as a lifeguard and currently works in the school’s Fitness Center. She plans to attend SUNY Fredonia for preveterinary medicine and then continue on to become a veterinarian.
