Former animal sanctuary owner in trouble with law again
CHARLOTTE – Charges are pending for a 51-year-old Sinclairville resident and former animal sanctuary owner after police responded to a reported animal complaint around her residence on Friday around 3 p.m.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Jackie Wisniewski, 51, of 2230 Mill Creek Road was allegedly not providing adequate housing for a number of dogs, which were surrendered by the owner. At the request of the Sheriff’s office, the dogs were taken into custody by the Charlotte dog control officer and the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
The investigation is continuing.
Wisniewski ran the former JNK’s Call of the Wild Sanctuary in Sinclairville when 20 animals, including a dozen tigers, three lions, three bears and two wolves, were taken out of the facility by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in May of last year.
The DEC at that time cited the illegal possession of dangerous, wild and exotic animals as the reason for seizing the animals. The JNK Facility had canceled its U.S. Department of Agriculture license in February 2014 and the DEC denied the renewal of the facility’s state special licenses in March 2014.
