Fredonia BOE approves three retirements

Three familiar faces in the Fredonia Central School facility have decided to enter the next phase of their lives by retiring.

The board of education – during a recent meeting – accepted letters of resignation from Brenda Rollins, library media specialist; Laurie Tramuta, music teacher; and Colleen Vanderzyden, music teacher, all effective July 1.

Superintendent Paul DiFonzo applauded the three faculty members’ service to the school district, calling them “stalwarts.”

“We are going to lose two of our rocks in the music department,” he added. “(Laurie and Colleen) have been here for many, many years and have been instrumental in helping our program to grow and be one of the outstanding programs in the whole area, the region. Bottom line is you can only try to bring in people who will pick up the program and move it forward. These three ladies have done an outstanding job for many years and they’re going to be a tremendous loss for our district.”

DiFonzo wished the three future retirees well.

Elementary School Principal Amy Piper echoed DiFonzo’s sentiments, adding the retirees will be “sorely missed.”

Also during the meeting, the board entered into executive session to discuss matters leading to the appointment of a particular person.
