Dr. Robert E. Goodwill

Dr. Robert E. Goodwill, aged 78, went to teach for a higher God on August 8, 2015. Dr. Goodwill was born on December 13, 1936, in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Brocton Central, Brocton, New York, he went on to graduate from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1963 with a BS in Elementary Education, minor in Science. He attended Duke University 1964-1965 for Secondary Science. Dr. Goodwill went on to receive his PhD in Genetics with a minor in Statistics in 1969 from the University of Minnesota at St. Paul. He launched an 18-year career as an Associate Professor of Genetics at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, where he authored and co-authored multiple articles and abstracts in scientific journals and was elected to Kappa Delta Pi and Gamma Sigma Chi. Dr. Goodwill taught at various colleges and schools throughout his career and prior to retirement taught at Tampa Baptist Academy and Tampa Baptist Christian Academy, Tampa, Florida. A veteran, Dr. Goodwill served in the US Navy from 1955-1959 during the Korean War. An avid “techy,” Dr. Goodwill enjoyed developing computer programs and websites. While living in Lexington he enjoyed playing golf, where he once hit a hole in 1, and bowling, where he once made the local Lexington paper by bowling a 287. At the time of his passing, Dr. Goodwill was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Tampa, Florida, where he served as its treasurer and participated in various other activities. by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Jones); children, Ruth McGee, Conni (Pete) Xecominos, Katherine Gardner, Thomas (BethAnn) Goodwill, and Valerie (Duane) Thieme. Grandchildren Lindsay, Quinn, Patrick, Evan, Han-nah, and Duval. Great granddaughters; Adrianna and Scarlett. Sisters Dora May Grant and Martha Smith, and several nieces, nephews, and family friends. A celebration of Dr. Goodwill’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at 1:00pm at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 6100 Memorial Highway, Tampa, Florida, 33615. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
