Patricia A. Silas

VERSAILLES – Patricia A. Silas, age 74, of Mechanic Street passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where she had been for the past three weeks convalescing.

Patricia was born April 4, 1941 in Jamestown, NY.

A Wave for the United States Navy, Pat was honorably discharged in San Diego, California, in 1961, after three years of service.

Pat married Irving Silas, who preceded her in death.

A visiting home health care aide, she worked for various agencies in western New York.

Pat enjoyed gardening and her nursing job. Most of her nursing clients became friends. In previous years, she was active with various clubs in Gowanda, including the American Legion Post 409, James Cruden VFW Post 5007 and the Moose Lodge 1382.

Survivors include two daughters, Dina (Robert Jr.) Drain of Gowanda and E-Lisa Brennan of Grand Island, NY; and a son, Patrick (Sophie) Canahai of Lockport, NY. Nine grandchildren also survive. In addition, Pat is survived by four sisters, Jeanne Rhinehart of Bemus Point, Janet (Don) Hautzinger and Charlotte (Gary) Bush, all of Florida, and Sandy Whitker of Arizona. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides Pat’s husband, Irving, she was preceded in death by her long-time companion and love, Edward Geil.

Funeral Services with full military honors will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda (716-532-4200). Interment to follow in the Versailles Cemetery. There will be no prior visitation. The Rev. Brenda Smith will officiate.

Memorials may be made to a local charity of one’s choice.

A United States Navy Veteran, Pat was a flag girl honorably serving her country; she was discharged in San Diego, California in September of 1961.

Pat married Irving Silas, who preceded her in death.

A home health nurse, Pat worked for various agencies in Western, NY, most not-ably Kaleida Health of Buffalo.
