Joan M. Wicks, 81, of Dunkirk died Saturday evening (Jan. 19, 2019) at the Lutheran Home in Jamestown surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.She was born May 2, 1937 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Michael and Karolina (Dul) Mucha. A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Joan was a graduate of Dunkirk High School. She worked for attorney Edward Kuzdale and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Dunkirk, and also St. Dominic Catholic Church in Brocton.A homemaker who loved her family and beloved dog Spanky, Joan cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, loved flowers, going to casinos and bingo, vacationing, camping, and babysitting.Survivors include one son, Douglas (Cynthia) Wicks of Florida, two daughters, Shelley (Greg) Bennice of North Carolina and Tammy (Eric) Balon of Falconer; eight grandchildren, Nicole Marsh, Matthew and Kailee Bennice, Daniel, Christopher, Scott Balon, and Chad and Ryan Mancuso; one great grandson, Camryn Bennice; two sisters, Julia Schrantz and Anne Mahon; lifelong friend, Sara Delcamp of Brocton; special niece, Caroline Johnson and several other nieces and nephews; and son in law, Alan Mancuso.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wicks; daughter, Jodi Mancuso; three brothers, Joseph, John, and Michael “Freddie” Mucha; and three sisters, Helen Lazarczyk, Mildred Wolfe, and infant Marianne Mucha.Memorial services will be held at a later date.
