Pennsylvania has income advantage

Editor, OBSERVER: John D’Agostino notes that Warren County, Pa., “has a minimum wage that is 42% less than New York state, has higher median household income at $50,250 and its poverty rate is 13.5%, which is 3% less than here at home” in his Editor’s corner on Nov. 19. Home is Chautauqua County, New York, the publication site of the OBSERVER and The Post-Journal. He does not mention that Warren County and adjoining McKean County both have oil refineries which no county in New York state now has. These refineries presumably pay higher wages than manufacturing operations ...

Watching the maples

He’s become an erstwhile partner and revered friend and the best travel companion I’d ever encountered. The memories piled up as high as the photographs from our trips to Maine and thereabouts and then the cruise to Alaska with stops in Washington along the way. Unbelievably easy to get along with (and, for me, that’s saying a lot), we’ve enjoyed friends, concerts, and many, many particularly good meals. Have Cranberry sauce, will travel

Thanksgiving hasn’t been at our house for a few years since we changed the family holiday rotation. I do miss it, but then again, I don’t have to do it … a blessing all by itself. But when it comes to making the cranberry sauce, that easy task is always on my “Take to Massachusetts” to-do list. If I don’t create the cranberry sauce, we don’t have it. Community supports bingo at Legion Editor, OBSERVER: The Sons of the American Legion, Squad 59 held their Turkey Bingo fundraiser Nov. 13 at the post at 156 E Main St., Fredonia. Winners of the rounds of turkey bingo had an enjoyable evening, especially with SAL Squad 59 Commander Rod Dziduch calling the numbers in addition to his color commentary. Changing U.S. culture takes toll on superheroes

The news flash about one of America’s greats isn’t all that unexpected. If we can tear down a statue of founding father Thomas Jefferson, anyone of our American heroes is fair game. Therefore, one of our last superhero is being tampered with to meet the demands of the woke generation. It’s Superman, the son of Jor-El from the planet Krypton, that I’m speaking of. Let’s pick up where we left off four weeks ago. Speaking at Notre Dame on Sept. 16, United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was asked to name the greatest threat to the judiciary. Thomas said some people expect too much from it, in part by asking it to solve questions that aren’t courts’ business.
