At a ceremony held earlier this year at the Dudley Motor Inn in Salamanca, Dunkirk resident Virginia Wencek was honored for her service to the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America. She received the Founder’s Award, which was created to honor and recognize those “Arrowmen” members of the Order who have given outstanding service to the local OA lodge. What is noteworthy of Mrs. Wencek’s award is that she is the first female to receive it in the local lodge. She is also the first woman in the lodge to have been bestowed with the title of Vigil Honor, the highest honor within the Order.
