Thirty years ago — 1990

Distinguished Professor Harry John Brown of the School of Music at Fredonia State University College will be feted in Milwaukee this week during the celebration of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s 25th anniversary as a touring orchestra. Brown was the founding music director and conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra from 1958 to 1968.

Forty years ago — 1980

When the Presbytery of Western New York met on a recent afternoon and evening at the First Presbyterian Church of Dunkirk, it was the first such meeting since 1919. The WNY Presbytery, one of the largest in the country, is made up of 74 churches from four counties. The first presbytery meeting in Dunkirk was held on Sept. 4, 1832 with 23 others held in years up to 1919.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Conservation Day was celebrated at School 4 with an assembly program and planting of a weeping cherry tree on the school grounds.
