Dr. Wallace Moore, 77, of Long Beach, Calif., holds a patent on an electric Honda Civic station wagon which can reach 28 mph and go 80 miles between charges. There is a 3 by 6 foot flat metal cookie pan embedded with 396 round silver-gray solar discs tied onto the roof. He added a small electric engine to the rear axle and an engine powered by six conventional batteries mounted below the rear deck of the wagon. He plugs into a standard electrical outlet for about eight hours each night and he did it all for less than $10,000, including the cost of the car.
