Thirty years ago — 1990

Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Sophia) Urbanik, 424 Franklin Ave., Dunkirk marked their 40th wedding anniversary on Dec. 2 with an anniversary Mass at St. Hedwig’s Church celebrated by the Rev. Frederich Leising, followed by a dinner dance at the Kosciuszko Club. Music for the reception was provided by Norm Borowczyk and Joe Kolasa.

Forty years ago — 1980

Koch’s Brewery, the small family-owned brewery in Dunkirk, again is adhering to the longstanding Old World tradition of brewing a special beer to be enjoyed in the spirit of warmth and good will during the holiday season. The Koch Family is proud to announce that Koch’s famous, robust Holiday Beer, will take its accustomed place among all the most treasured holiday traditions again this year. Koch’s beer has been brewed solely in Dunkirk since the brewery was founded in 1891 and has affectionately come to be known as “the slowest brewing brewery in the East.”

Fifty years ago — 1970

Newly elected student council officers at Cardinal Mindszenty High School are Marilyn Pantano, president; Ann Marie Gaura, secretary; Barry Dimmer, vice president; and Fred Zielinski, treasurer.
