Thirty years ago — 1991
Lessons in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver paid off recently when Diane Firman Carrow of Silver Creek took quick action to help 3-year-old Jeffe Cisneros, who was choking on an orange and wheezing while struggling to breathe. Mrs. Carrow’s quick reflexes brought what could have been a tragic situation under control in a minute or two. Jeffe, fully recovered, went off to play with his two brothers, James and Jose.
Forty years ago — 1981
Retired since Feb. 1 after 32 years of employment at Great Lakes Color Corp., Fred Begier of North Serval Street, Dunkirk was honored at the Rainbow Inn. The informal testimonial was attended by co-workers and union members who presented gifts to the guest of honor.
Fifty years ago — 1971
Dunkirk High School’s girls basketball team, the Marauderettes, captured the Association of Women’s Physical Education of New York Division tournament title by defeating Olean, 33-20. Denise Maslakowski lead the DHS squad with 15 points.
