Thirty years ago — 1991

The Pine Valley Senior Class broke tradition this year and took their senior trip to Florida rather than Washington, D.C. Only 38 seniors out of a class total of 44 participants participated in the trip so the class decided to fly. Students began raising money for the trip during their freshman year through various fund-raising events. They visited Disney World in Orlando and Daytona Beach.

Forty years ago — 1981

William G. Briggs Sr. of Dunkirk, a past exalted ruler of Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922, is the newly-elected Southwestern District Vice President. In this capacity, he will oversee BPOE lodges in Bath, Corning, Hornell, Williamsville, Olean, Salamanca, Jamestown and Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago — 1971

McCroskey’s Men’s and Boys’ Store is holding its grand opening at its new location on Central Avenue, Dunkirk, the former site of the House of Charm.
