Thirty years ago — 1991

Connie Zirkle has been named valedictorian at Brocton Central School. The daughter of Marvin and Joyce Zirkle of Lake Avenue, Brocton, she plans to pursue a career in secondary math education. Salutatorian is Robert Smith, son of Harold and Lois Smith of Ellicott Road in Brocton. Active in sports, he won the first team 1990 Western New York “All-Academic” Football Team scholarship.

Forty years ago — 1981

The Pomfret Town Board, by a 3-1-1 vote, recently appointed James Oakes Jr. as superintendent of highways for the town. The appointment was effective June 1 at a salary of $16,500 per year. Mr. Oakes, the former deputy superintendent, was appointed to replace Warren O. Draggett St., who officially retired on June 1.

Fifty years ago — 1971

The Rev. Thomas N. Ciolino, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek, is celebrating the 35th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
