Thirty years ago — 1991

Members of the Southtowns Walleye Association recently presented the city of Dunkirk with a check for $2,500 to help pay for the recently opened fish cleaning station at the city pier. Mayor Greg Krauza accepted on behalf of the city. The Association has issued a challenge to other sports clubs in the area to follow its lead and make a contribution.

Forty years ago — 1981

A district official of Little League Baseball Inc. charged that the Town of Portland Republican Committee is illegally using the name “Little League” to help sell tickets for a benefit pig roast. The co-chairman of the event is the GOP candidate for county legislator from District 2, towns of Portland and Pomfret.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Dr. James H. Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Young of Babcock Avenue, Silver Creek has been appointed to a new position as associate vice president for academic affairs at the State University College at Buffalo.
