Thirty years ago — 1991

Jessica Lynn Arcoraci, 2 1/2 year old daughter of Mary Jo Arcoraci of Fredonia, recently won the Regional Baby Division of the International Prince and Princess Pageant held in Jamestown. She also placed second in the photogenic competition. Jessica will now compete Nov. 8-10 at the national pageant being held at the Taminent Resort Inn in the Pocono Mountains.

Forty years ago — 1981

The Sheridan Town Board at its recent meeting ordered Alphonso and Marie Negorniak of Buffalo to “secure or remove” their Iroquois Motel on Route 20. A letter was sent from the town, noting the “dangerous and unsafe condition” of the motel and requesting that action be taken. Building Inspector Tyler Cross requested the building be removed from the property and not just boarded up. Mr. Negorniak appeared before the board and explained that he had been trying to sell the motel, restaurant and land with no luck.

Fifty years ago — 1971

The community is mourning the loss of one of Dunkirk’s most beloved educators, Miss Florence Maud Andrews, who died Oct. 12 at her residence, 617 Eagle St., at the age of 101. She was one of the area’s oldest residents.
