Thirty years ago — 1991

In Mayville, the proposed 1992 Chautauqua County budget was bounced back into the lap of its creator like a bad check along with a request to return it only after making deep cuts in local programs. These cuts could mean service curtailments and layoffs. The action by the legislature’s Finance Committee in returning the spending plan for revision to County Executive Andrew Goodell, asked him to cut $800,000 in purely local spending.

Forty years ago — 1981

Student of the Week is Richard P. “Rick” Musso, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Musso of Webster Road, Brocton. A senior at Brocton Central School, Rick is currently president of the student council and a member of the swim team and drama club. He attends the BOCES LoGuidice Center in Fredonia where he is studying data processing. Rick’s future plans include travel and working in a business-related field.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Dan Moore, rapidly being acknowledged as one of the finest three-sport athletes in the history of Fredonia High School, received new laurels this week when he was named Federation Division VI Football Player of the Week in Western New York.
