Thirty years ago — 1991

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.” And it’s only the first week of November. Record early heavy snowfalls blanketed western New York yesterday and today. Temperatures fell to the 20s, tying the record for Nov. 3 of 27 degrees while shattering the record low temperature for today when the thermometer plunged to 23. Nearly six inches of snow was recorded in Dunkirk and seven in Silver Creek.

Forty years ago — 1981

Farnham resident Dorothy Mingle is probably one of the few people who has received a letter from almost every state plus England, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and areas throughout Canada. She receives about 25 letters a week from 150 pen pals all over the world and tries to answer each letter on the day it arrives.

Fifty years ago — 1971

A new jewelry store has opened in the downtown section of Fredonia — Robert’s Jewelers in the Russo Building, Park Place. Robert Billick is the owner/operator.
