Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1991

Construction is under way on the Collins Manor senior citizens project on Main Street in Ripley. The two-story building will contain 24 one-bedroom apartments, laundry facilities and a community room. The project has received extensive support from Ripley town officials and local senior citizens.

Forty years ago — 1981

Koch’s Brewery of Dunkirk, a familyowned brewery, continues to carry on one of the longstanding Old World traditions, namely the custom of brewing a special beer to be enjoyed in the spirit of warmth and good will for the holiday season. The Brewery is proud to announce that Koch’s famous, robust Holiday Beer will take its accustomed place among all the most treasured holiday traditions this year.

Fifty years ago — 1971

At its Mr. and Mrs. Holiday Fashion Show, the Retail Merchants Division of the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce named Mrs. James C. (Jane) Gugino of Dunkirk queen and W.K. Palmer, Fredonia banker, king.
