Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1992

Julianne Wagner, daughter of David and Marianne Wagner of 9 Robinson St., Silver Creek and a senior at Silver Creek Central School, is the Student of the Week. Junior and senior class president, she has been a member of the chorus since third grade. Julie ranks first in her senior class and received the Bausch and Lomb Award for excellence in science. She plans to study optical or computer engineering at RIT or the University of Rochester.

Forty years ago — 1982

A “Do You Remember?” photo shows the fireman’s inspection, Hose Company No. 1, August 1947. Don Loeb, First Assistant Foreman; John J. Oliver, Foreman; and LeRoy Dietzen, Second Assistant Foreman are standing in front of a 1941 Chevrolet pumper which was in service from 1941 to 1958. It was referred to then as the “coke truck” or “banana wagon.”

Fifty years ago — 1972

The first annual Fredonia Trade Fair, held in Floral Hall, drew 2,000 visitors. About 40 area merchants and businesses displayed their wares and gave away free prizes and discount coupons.
