Thirty years ago — 1992

It’s official: Wal-Mart to build here. A Wal-Mart discount retail store will be the anchor store for the new Fredonia Shopping Center located on Route 60 in the village of Fredonia. Construction will start within the next month or two. The new center, which was approved to also include a supermarket, will be constructed in stages. It will be located on a 22-acre site just north of the Lucky Lanes bowling alley.

Forty years ago — 1982

Paul Wykstra, 22 Holmes Place, Fredonia has good reason to be proud of his German shepherd, Timba. Competing in the Lake Shore Winter Classics in Rochester, Timba was awarded a certificate and engraved plaque for first place in the weight-pull contest, having hauled 671 pounds.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Thomas Farver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Farver of Ellicott Road, Brocton has been named by the Brocton-Portland Jaycees as the Outstanding Teenager of the Year.
