Thirty years ago — 1992

Dunkirk’s youth made two things perfectly clear: They feel major changes are needed at Dunkirk High School and that the city needs a youth center. The comments came during a “speakout” session sponsored by the Dunkirk Youth Bureau and Recreation Commission. Several youths objected to what they feel are unnecessarily strict disciplinary policies that have been implemented at the school in recent years.

Forty years ago — 1982

Employed 47 years by Kraft Foods,Walter J. Stasiewicz of Dunkirk was guest of honor at a retirement party held at the Top of the Mark. Family members, co-workers and company staff from Chicago attended the event. Mr. Stasiewicz came to Dunkirk in 1971 as plant manager, a position he held previously in Hillside, N.J.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Pending state authorization, the Fredonia Central School District Board of Education has voted to own, install and maintain a manually controlled traffic signal at the school’s driveway and East Main Street (Route 20).
