Thirty years ago — 1992

The National Association of Basketball Coaches, in a vote of member coaches, has selected Fredonia State’s Greg Prechtl as its East District Coach of the Year in NCAA Division III. He is one of eight coaches nationally to receive a district coaching honor. This is Prechtl’s second coaching award this season. He was previously named SUNYAC Coach of the Year for the first time in a vote of conference coaches. Prechtl has coached the Blue Devils for 16 seasons.

Forty years ago — 1982

Ryan Roos, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Roos of Maple Avenue, Cassadaga is pictured selling a “Buy A Board” certificate to his grandmother, Mrs. Lois Franz. The “Buy A Board” campaign, sponsored by the Cassadaga Elementary School Parents’ Organization, is designed to raise funds for a creative playground at the school. Community residents are asked to purchase a certificate which, in turn, will “buy a board” for the new playground.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Customers of the Cassadaga Telephone Corp. have now been connected with the nationwide Direct Distance Dialing Network. Customers will now be able to dial their own toll calls to most places in the United States and Canada.
