Thirty years ago — 1992

Masako Ebata is the new exchange student to be hosted by the Fredonia Rotary Club. Her home is in Himi, Japan, a coastal town adjacent to the Sea of Japan. Josef and Linda Powell will be Masako’s host parents. The Powells reside on McAllister Road and have hosted five other exchange students. Their youngest daughter, JoAnne, will be a Rotary exchange student to Brazil next year.

Forty years ago — 1982

A Westfield man has been chosen “Small Business Person of the Year” in upstate New York by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBA District Office in Syracuse has designated Robert S. Miller, board chairman and president of Better Baked Foods Inc., Westfield as the recipient of the 1982 award in the New York State area north and west of Albany. Better Baked Foods is a producer of pizza and specialty breads with plants in Westfield and North East, Pa.

Fifty years ago — 1972

D. Purdy Monroe of the Monroe Realty and Insurance Agency and Heppell-Robinson Inc. have announced the merger of the two insurance offices, effective July 1.
