Thirty years ago — 1992

Robert Hall, middle and high school principal at Brocton Central School, made good on a bet with his students by wearing a prom dress last Friday afternoon. Principal Hall had challenged the students to sign a “prom pledge” stating they would not drink or use drugs for the event. Mr. Hall asked for 90 percent of the students to sign that pledge and received 95 percent participation during three prom promise signups.

Forty years ago — 1982

Dr. William B. Dederer, currently associate professor of music and chairman of brass at Fredonia State University College, has been named the academic dean of the Boston Conservatory of Music. He was first appointed to the Fredonia faculty in 1969 as instructor of trumpet. Prior to his appointment at Fredonia, Dr. Dederer taught instrumental music in North Collins.

Fifty years ago — 1972

The Dunkirk Humane Society has moved its office from 134 E. Fourth St. to the second floor at 59 East Fourth St.
