Fredonia: Special honors by Post 59

In this area, Dunkirk’s Memorial Day festivities receive the greatest amount of publicity. It includes a 40-minute memorial service and a one-hour parade that runs on Central Avenue from Lake Shore Drive to Fifth Street.

But the Fredonia ceremonies, done by American Legion Post 59, are also of significance. This year’s event had a special meaning for one man in particular: Ron Bouquin. For 50 years, Bouquin has been placing flags at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Monday, the Vietnam veteran was honored by the post for his service — and a job well done. It was a deserving recognition for a person who does so much to remember — and contribute — to veterans lives across our county.
